Have you ever thought about all of the various methods of communication you have at your disposal online? Not even counting the devices you have in order to get a message across to someone, we find new tools every day to say something to the world. You tell others what you are thinking, what you are doing, what you like, where you are, (where you’re not), and everything other minute detail that others may or may not care about. It has gotten to the point that you have to have a list of logins in order to get to all of the places that you need to updated in order to tell the world what you are up to, or have auto-updates turned on to link everything into one stream of real-time updates. We even have ways to tell people what you are doing without being present (Auto-Tweets). Have you ever heard the expression “Drinking from a fire hose”? Well, that is what you are doing if you want to tackle the subject of social media without prior exposure, experience, or the ability to take things a piece at a time.
This is my introductory post as a new intern of Stand and Stretch, and even being somewhat comfortable with social media, there is a vast landscape of things that I have never heard of, or taken advantage of, to make my online presence more of a value-add. So a rule of thumb – Take it slow. Learn what makes the most sense to get involved in. Don’t sign up for everything and then leave it out there not being updated or not used to its optimum.
“That’s all I got to say about that…” Forrest Gump.
