Expand your meeting capability with Google Hangouts Meet

Meetings. Love them or hate them, it’s part of doing business. For me, I love a great meeting with team collaboration, but hate those meetings just to meet. Part of what makes an awesome meeting is having excellent resources. Enter: Google Hangouts Meet.

Google Hangouts Meet is an enterprise product of G Suite that expands the Google Hangouts platform to have up to 50 users in a video chat.

From their website, Google boasts:

“Meet takes the headaches out of joining a video call at work. Just set up a meeting and share a link. No worrying about whether teammates, clients, or customers have the right accounts or plug-ins. With a fast, lightweight interface and smart participant management, multi-person video calls are a breeze.”

The possibilities for Meet can include regular meetings, impromptu meetings while on-the-go, interviews, seminars and trainings; just about anything your business can dream up to get your workflow on point.

Google Hangouts

Currently, Google Hangouts is the free offering from Google that allows you to chat with friends or coworkers. Anyone with a Gmail can send and receive messages, images, emojis to other users. Video is available on Hangout; but on a smaller scale.

This is a great tool for teams to stay in touch regardless of where they are. Previously, we blogged about the increasing numbers of remote workers, in fact Stand and Stretch here in Columbus, Ga actually has remote content writers and web developers all over the United States. We make use of Hangouts currently in a couple of different ways. We have a large Hangout with everyone in the organization that functions as a group chat, and we have chats that are labeled specifically for the project being worked on. This setup is great for keeping folks informed, but cutting down on the clutter of emails. It helps to centralize and streamline the daily work of the organization.

The upgrade to Google Hangouts Meet

But, a group chat can only take you so far when your business grows. There are a few great video meeting softwares out there, but Google wants to streamline your workflow and communication so they’ve introduced Google Hangouts Meet.

Meet can support up to 50 users to make use of the Meet website for desktops, apps for devices, or users can call in to the meeting from a landline phone.

It integrates with your Google Calendar, so when you set up a meeting in Calendar it generates a link to the Meet. You can also start a Meet instantly from the app or desktop and invite people to join from there.

Additionally, you can share your screen and record the meetings. This lends itself to being an excellent tool for webinars and trainings, or a way to make sure everyone remembers what happened in the meeting so they can follow up on action items.

Another cool feature is the ability to start on one device and move to another if needed because all video syncs across devices.

Google Meet is your next secret weapon to getting things done with your team.
